Although double glazing replacement windows have been around for 80 years the introduction of UPVC / PVC-u frames has changed the style, and the benefits including the affordability and the energy saving capabilities.
Double glazing is, in simple terms, two layers of glazing, separated by an air space for thermal and acoustic insulation. Today it usually supplied as a sealed unit, set in hardwood, aluminium or UPVC frames.
When UPVC / PVC-u frames were first introduced the nearly always tended to be white but as the technology has become more sophisticated and as demand and popularity has increased so the choice has increased.
